Description:

The family service assistant supports the general operation of The Salvation Army in Yamhill County by providing emergency assistance to residents.

Education & Work Experience:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
  • Organizational skills necessary.
  • Work with minimal supervision and able to make decisions within the scope of Salvation Army policies and procedures.
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
  • Have a working knowledge of client services and community resources.

Certifications:

  • Valid Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.
  • Successfully pass The Salvation Army's driving test and criminal background check.
  • Be orientated on The Salvation Army’s Protecting the Mission policies and agree to abide by its guidelines.
  • Food Handler’s Card recognized by the State of Oregon (to be obtained 30 days of employment).

Specific Duties:

  • Maintain food pantry in accordance with USDA, Food Bank, and Salvation Army guidelines.
  • Prepare food boxes.
  • Sort a reasonable amount of clothing items to be given away to clients by maintaining a small donation area.
  • Keep the office, food pantry, and client waiting area clean by sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and taking out trash to dumpster daily.
  • Remove cardboard from pantry to the recycle bin.
  • Assist in unloading of weekly food delivery. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Lifting may be performed both indoors and outdoors under all types of weather conditions: walking, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying heavy and irregular loads.
  • Drive Salvation Army vehicles and pickup in-kind donations when needed.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by The Yamhill County Service Center Coordinator.
